Summer vacation at home in NY

Well, here I am in NY and so far I have been super cold every day.  I just Nashville has seeped into my blood.  Today, however, Jasmine and I worked up a sweat (well, I worked up a sweat, Jasmine looked super good as always) on a walk, and then sat out in the sun.  It was a whole 66 degrees out!!!

I already miss our household.

Complexities of Grading -- Post I

I dearly hope that we continue these posts, where discuss potential ways to solve grading problems.  So, I shall begin...

Grading Issue 1 -- Everyone fails a test/quiz because they didn't study

Problem: You can't just curve it and give them a good grade when they didn't demonstrate they knew the material; however, you probably don't want to fail your entire class.

Solution: Earning a curve!  Hand back the assessment with two grades on it.  One that is the grade they earned without the curve, and one is their grade with the curve.  If they would like the curved grade, they need to do complete test corrections!  That way, they have to show the knowledge, and they realize that there were consequences to not studying (even if everyone didn't study).
